Ogoh Ogoh Parade The day before Nyepi

The parade is held all over Bali after sunset. All the banjar neighbourhoods and hundreds of youth associations make their own Ogoh ogoh monsters many as large as 20 feet high. Competitions are held in any major centres notably Denpasar and Sanur. More info.....

New Year's day is perhaps the oddest day in Bali. On this day, throughout the island, silence is observed and inactivity reigns supreme. Also called Nyepi Day, the Balinese Day of Silence, New Year's day opens a new year of the Saka Hindu era which began in 78 A.D. More info.......

28th Bali Arts Festival 17th June - 15th July 2006 Held at the Arts Centre in Denpasar the Bali Arts Festival attracts entries from all over Bali ina series of traditional music, song, dance and drama performances and competitions. ....more info
Kite Festival 22nd July 2006 Ever seen ten kites being launched at once, each one 30 feet by 20 feet with a team of 30 people on the rope, 20 people holding the kite and 30 people in a band to encourage the gods to assist their kite? A spectacular four day event held on the beach near Sanur the kite festivals attracts thousands of entries from villages all over Bali.

These days there are other kite festivals popping up but this is the first and the best. ....more info

Galungan 29th November 2006 A special day on the Balinese Calender that occurs every 7 months on the European calendar when Balinese decorate the streets with sacred Penjor poles to celebrate a 10 day period when the spirits of ancestors return to visit.
Kuningan 9th December 2006 A special day marking the end of the sacred period for Balinese.
International Film Festival 14th - 17th December 2006 An extension of the Jakarta Film Festival will hold events in Bali.
